Illinois farmer honored as “America’s Pig Farmer of the Year”

The National Pork Board created the America’s Pig Farmer of the YearSM contest in order to recognize the best of the best in pig farming. This prestigious honor is awarded annually to the pig farmer who best demonstrates and lives by the “We Care ethical principles. These include:

  • Promoting animal well-being
  • Producing safe food
  • Protecting public health
  • Safeguarding natural resources and the environment
  • Providing employee safety and education
  • Giving back to the community

This year, Patrick Bane from McLean County, IL was named America’s Pig Farmer of the Year for his focus on public health, hiring the best people and maintaining the health of his pigs. As with many farmers, raising pigs has been a lifelong passion for Patrick, and we congratulate him on this honor.
