FRIEDERS’ FAMILY FARM

I grew up in a farming town but never set foot in a tractor. I left the corporate world when our daughter Eleanor was born in 2013 – we decided it was best for me be closer to home and more involved with the farm. It’s one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. I love the example farming sets for our children. They see us working earnestly and working together. It can be stressful, but at the same time, I think it’s great for our family life. Plus, I get to work with people I love! They’ve taught me so much.

ALL IN A DAY’S WORK

We live and farm in rural Waterman with Ryan’s parents, Ron & Denise. Their family has been farming forever! Everyone is involved. Right now, I help by cooking the meals during planting and harvest. You can follow my kitchen adventures on my blog: This Farm Girl Cooks. Ryan’s family is also teaching me to operate the equipment so eventually I can take over for Ryan’s mom when she retires.

DOING OUR VERY BEST

It’s important to us to be good stewards of our land, farm responsibly and sustainably, and to stay on top of industry research and trends. I’m in favor of families doing what works best for them – both on the farm and in the kitchen. There’s no “right” way to feed your family. We put so much pressure on ourselves, but I think we all do the best with what we have.
