Eckert’s Best Apple Pie
Our family has tasted quite a few apple pies throughout seven generations of apple growing, and one thing is for certain: a pie with a combination of Golden Delicious and Jonathan apples is, hands-down, our family’s favorite. In fact, the Eckert family is partial to a specific combination of one Golden Delicious apple for every four Jonathan apples. This tangy combination provides just the right amount of sweet and tart to compliment a crumb-top pie.
Why not give it a try? I just know you will love it as much as the Eckert family does. And the secret apple combination … It’s yours to share or keep!
Ingredients
- 5 cups peeled and sliced apples (mostly Jonathans with one golden delicious)
- 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/3 cup butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Arrange apples in pie shell. Mix 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.
- Mix remaining 1/2 cup sugar and the flour in small bowl; cut in butter until mixture forms pea-sized crumbs. Sprinkle over apple mixture.
- Bake for 10 minutes; reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until apples are tender.
