Pie with Whipped Cream

Better Together: Five ways to improve your food with dairy

Few things in life are sweeter than an extra dollop of whipped cream on a homemade slice of apple pie, but that’s not the only dairy add-on that can make your taste buds sing!

Butter

Most of us stock up on sticks of butter for our baking needs during the holidays – it makes our cookies and pie crusts extra flaky and rich! But that’s not all. Who doesn’t love spreading salty, rich butter on warm toast, rolls or biscuits?

Ice Cream

Ice cream is a champion. It can stand alone and bring smiles and brain freezes to the masses. But teamwork is an important skill in life and in the kitchen, so add a scoop (or two) of cold, creamy ice cream to freshly baked pies and cookies for that perfectly satisfying mix of hot and cold!

Sour Cream

Sour cream is the whipped cream of mealtime – is there anything you shouldn’t put it on? From tacos to chili to casseroles, sour cream can kick your mealtime flavor up a notch.

Yogurt

Yes, really! Yogurt is great on its own, but consider adding some to your smoothies and dips for a creamy texture and a boost of nutrients like protein, potassium and calcium.

Cheese

You didn’t think we’d forget about cheese, did you? Cheese is the ultimate add-on to everything from sandwiches and appetizer trays to casseroles and potatoes. You can even add cheese to your steak! It’s a delicious way to add some extra protein and calcium to any meal. Is there anything cheese can’t do?
